A deferment refers to a situation where a student delays or postpones their course or module.
Specifically:
Defer Intake means postponing the commencement of the course to a later intake.
Defer Course means deferring a module or semester after the course has already commenced.
The processing time for a deferment request is fourteen (14) working days from the date the request is submitted by the student.
Once the outcome is finalized, a letter will be issued to the student to inform them of the result.
The maximum deferment period is one (1) semester.
If a student wishes to defer for more than one semester, they will need to withdraw from the course, and the college’s withdrawal policy will apply.
If the student later wishes to re-enrol in the same course, they will be treated as a new applicant but may apply for exemptions for units previously completed.
Requests for waiver of this limitation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are subject to Management's approval.
When a student expresses the intention to defer, the Marketing Staff and/or Student Services Staff will first speak with the student to understand the reason and explore possible solutions to help the student continue with their studies.
If the student still wishes to proceed with the deferment, they must complete the Deferment Form and provide all relevant supporting documents.
The Student Services Staff will explain the terms and conditions stated on the form, including the implications of deferment on course fees and student pass status (for international students). The student must sign the form to confirm that the information has been explained and understood.
The completed request form is then submitted to the Admin Manager for vetting.
Defer Intake requests are approved by the Admin Manager.
Defer Course requests are forwarded to the relevant Course Manager, Course Coordinator, or Head of Department (Academic) for approval.
Once the decision has been made, the Student Services Staff will issue an outcome letter to the student.
Depending on the approved deferment period, the student’s existing pass may either be maintained or cancelled. A new Student Contract or Addendum may be issued upon the student’s return from deferment.
A legitimate reason for the deferment must be provided.
Complete supporting documents must be submitted.
For students below 18 years of age, prior approval from a parent or guardian must be obtained.
